Welcome to Mad Monkey:
A Place to Train, Not Transform into a Cult Member
So, you’ve stumbled into Mad Monkey. Congratulations! You’re now part of a community that values sweat over ceremony, punches over pretentiousness, and practical skills over pompous titles. Around here, we’re just a group of regular folks throwing kicks and rolling on mats without the need to turn it into an audition for a martial arts-themed reality show.
No robes. No mystical mumbo jumbo. Just a lot of hard work, high-fives, and maybe a little soreness tomorrow. Let’s talk about what that looks like—and why we don’t need to call anyone “Master Splinter” to make it legit.
Meet the coach
Coaches, Not Cult Leaders
At Mad Monkey, we like to keep things simple. The person with more experience is your coach. Not “sensei,” not “sifu,” and definitely not “grandmaster of the universe.” They’re the ones who’ve been around long enough to know when you’re about to walk into your own roundhouse kick and how to keep you from doing that (because it’s hilarious but also painful).
The job of a coach is to support you, to guide you to teach you how to throw a proper jab and maybe even explain why you shouldn’t eat a burrito right before sparring. They’ll give you the tools to achieve your goals, whether that’s mastering a spinning back kick or just surviving the warm-up without seeing stars. Don’t worry i don’t do 20 minute long calisthenics warmups to me that’s just a waist of your time. your hear to learn to be good at fighting not learn to be good at calisthenics or yoga. Em i right?
